Optical Communities was formed to deliver technologically advanced entertainment and communications services to multi-family residential communities, by offering a fully integrated communications bundle of high-speed Internet access and Home Phone service delivered on fiber-optics to within 50 meters of each resident, and DIRECTV. We design, construct, install, maintain, support and manage these services. OC works closely with the developer and construction team during the entire construction phase of the project.

OC has partnered with proven technology partners, industry leaders Alcatel-Lucent and DIRECTV, and delivers proven technology solutions. OC builds “next generation” fiber-to-the-building (or to the closet) network infrastructure to deliver broadband services that deliver lightning fast speeds, superior reliability and performance. We provide a dedicated connection directly to each apartment home in the community, end-to-end connectivity based upon native Ethernet standards, and capable of delivering up to 1GB to the unit (via Cat5e that spans the final 50 meters from a wiring closet to the unit). OC connects the community to the Internet via a dedicated commercial grade fiber-optic Metro Ethernet connection, ensuring superior reliability, speed and a consistent end-user experience.

DIRECTV's advanced digital video platform, MFH2, is a full service solution and supports the latest line of DIRECTV SWM capable receivers and all of the features available on each model (including the multi-tuner HD/DVRs and Genie), with access to all DIRECTV programming and services using single-wire technology. MFH2 can reuse wiring that currently exists on the property. A single (residential sized) dish can serve each building or the entire community, eliminating the eyesore associated with residents mounting unsightly satellite dishes on their balconies, windows, ledges, lawns, roofs, etc.

OC also assists the property owner/developer in the design and engineering of the low voltage infrastructure for the community to ensure that the building is designed to offer state-of-the-art entertainment and communications services. OC can also serve as a “one-stop shop” for low voltage infrastructure, offering a complete system from design, construction, installation, test and turn-up for inside wiring (coaxial cable, cat5e, in-unit low voltage distribution panels, wall jack, telecom closet build-out, trim out and label), closed circuit TV (CCTV), controlled access/alarm systems, audio visual systems.
